Get a free home STD test kit
We’ve searched out a program that offers anyone a free STD kit. The “I Want the Kit” program was started by John Hopkins University and sends out STD home testing kits to you for free. So what’s the catch? Well… there are a couple.
First catch : the free STD kit only tests for chlamydia. Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted disease which is hard to detect unless you are tested and can lead to sterility in both men and women. According to the Center for Disease Control, 40 percent of women that have chlamydia and don’t treat it develop Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, which damages reproductive organs and makes it impossible for them to have children. Chlamydia can be easily treated if detected early, so it’s very important that if you are sexually active, you test yourself regularly for this infection.
Second catch : in order to receive the free STD test kit from the John Hopkins program, you have to live in “Region III” of the Center for Disease Control. The free STD test kits are being given away as part of the Region III Infertility Prevention Project. If you live in Delaware, Washington DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia or West Virginia, then you’ll be able to receive your free STD home test. The offer is also open to residents of Denver, CO and select counties of Illinios.
So if you’re lucky enough to qualify, or just want to check out the site, you can visit http://www.iwantthekit.org. Hopefully, other programs like this one will continue to spring up and everyone will have access to free home testing kits. We’ll keep looking for more sources of free std kits online and if you have any leads for similar programs, please leave a comment.
